Russell Layoffs Begin Today
The word on the street is that Russell Investments will be delivering its much anticipated pink slips to the unfortunate 20% today. This translates into a global reduction of 400 people. It isn’t known how many are affect in Tacoma. Our thoughts are with all of you.

Earlier Exit 133 comment: Crime is no worse here than in many neighborhoods.
Is that why Russell had to “hire” TPD officers to camp outsides its doors down the street? Shutter to think it had anything to do with an executive female who was robbed on the streets of Tacoma.
Get this Kool-Aid drinkers, Russell is leaving town!

I’ll add that I don’t think that a workforce reduction has very much to do with their plans. While they had indeed outgrown the existing HQ at one point the bigger problem was with the configuration of the building. My recollection is that it was something about the elevator shaft going down the middle of the building or some other such configuration deal that was the problem. Apparently, the WAY they work today (needing visual contact) was more important than the amount of space. Workforce reduction then wouldn’t factor as much into relocation as one might think.
Is ANYBODY in Tacoma leadership wooing Saltchuck executives? Saltchuck subsidiary Illahie owns the Russell Building.

Squid – the people tasked with employee retention and recruitment are working for The Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County. Call 383-4726. Last I spoke w/ them Susan Suess was the vice president and Derek Kilmer was the Business Retention Manager. They are receptive to ideas and may be acting on your suggestion as we type/read. Or not.

If it is not good enough for Russell it can’t be good enough for SaltChuck. Right now I’d settle for GroundChuck. I just hope those people at Russell don’t get any of the city’s money as they back the moving trucks up to the building. Is there some sort of “leaving town” tax the city can levy on them?

I don’t think it’s quite time for one of these yet.

I remember that billboard! I was a kid, but a 10 year old can remember a lot of stuff.

Hard to imagine Seattlites having a sense of humor about themselves or the city nowadays. In some ways the bad old days really were the good old days.

It looks like the Russell company will be part of the stimulus that gets Seattle back on the economic track. Tacoma will continue getting hind teat.

“It looks like the Russell company will be part of the stimulus that gets Seattle back on the economic track. Tacoma will continue getting hind teat.“
And thus the status quo is maintained, while the ego of our neighbors to the north continues to be inflated to a level that makes the housing boom seem puny.
I’d cry if I had any tears left.

Will the city council flip out and do the fatal attraction: “If I cant have you, nobody will!”
What is Russell’s bunny and how can we boil it in a pot?
A altered Chords April 21, 2009
Seattle is the crazy lady who has the affair w/ Russell. Tacoma is the faithful wife. The bunny is “wealth”. It has been boiling in the pot. Now the faithful wife shoots the crazy lady. Let’s roll.

So Russell = Michael Douglas? Can this movie be Basic Instinct instead?
