Ryan Petty Returns to the EDB for Tacoma-Pierce County
Ryan Petty, the recently departed Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Tacoma, has returned to the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County. The EDB is a private, non-profit corporation that bridges the public and private sector and tries to encourage economic development in Tacoma-Pierce County. In a letter sent to the EDB Board by its president Bruce Kendall:
I am pleased to announce that the EDB has hired Ryan Petty to join our team as a Senior Vice President, effective August 1, 2012. As you know, Ryan brings decades of economic development experience to the EDB from his work in Austin (TX), Rockford (IL), and Tacoma-Pierce County. At the EDB Ryan’s talents will be focused on our Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program where he will have responsibility for a minimum of 175 BRE client meetings each year with companies across Pierce County. He will work closely with our private and public sector partners to ensure that the right assistance is delivered to these firms so that they continue to stay and grow jobs here. This includes workforce training and access, incentives, real estate, financing, etc …
Ryan Petty was president of the EDB from 1986 to 1989.
Congratulations, Ryan.

Maybe someone can help me out here. Does this staff list seem top heavy? Maybe there is a small army of administrative staff that isn’t listed on their website.
1. President and CEO
2. Senior Vice President
3. Senior Vice President
4. Vice President
5. Vice President
6. Vice President
7. Vice President
8. Office Manager
9. Bookkeeper
Also, what funding does the Tacoma City Council give to the EDB? What are its metrics? Just curious.

@tom – Titles are cheap – particularly in small organizations and banks. It’s about what they do for a living and not what’s on the business card.

Yes, yes, that’s what I was alluding to. Pretty high falutin’ titles. If I was the Office Manager, I think I would ask to have my title changed to Global Logistics and Internal Affairs Director. And of course, Bookkeeper = CFO, or Director of Internal Audit.
