Saturday Nov 18th - A Day For The Arts

I know we’ve been talking a lot about Thursday, but did you know Saturday, November 18th is a big day for Tacoma’s arts community? 

Storefront Mural Project
It all starts with an open house for the Storefront Mural Project.  This is a Tacoma Works project that aims to beautify neighborhoods by painting fictional storefronts onto the facade of vacant buildings.  They’ll be talking about the project, showing off, and answering questions from noon until 3:00 at 1912 Pacific Ave.

Tacoma Indie Fashion Showcase
Next we move down the block to Indochine for House of Kubla Kaha, A Tacoma Indie Fashion Showcase.  This amazing and unique event will include a theatrical show at Indochine with a live DJ, tribal belly dancer and male courtisans accompanying the models who will wear designs from Local fashionistas and Seattle’s I heart rummage design divas. After the 4pm show there will be a designer reception @ urbanXchange at 5pm (Make a reservation – Seating at 3pm).

Snowballed
Moving a few more blocks down Pacific, we get to celebrate the Tacoma Art’s Community’s one-year anniversary with Snowballed at 7:00 pm.  The event will take place at The Soma United Church, 2320 Pacific Ave., and will feature live music, refreshments and dancing. The price of admission is one handmade snowflake that will be donated to Mary Bridge Hospital’s Festival of Trees.

Kulture Lab
Then, before the evening ends, we head up to the St. Helens neighborhood to the funky art party / gallery we call Kulture Lab.  The space next to the Grand Cinema on Fawcett has been transformed and Kulture Lab is hosting its grand opening from 7:00 to 11:00 pm.  The Kulture Lab is a center for edgy and innovative art of various mediums.  This should not be missed.

So here’s the plan.  Go out on November 16th and plan your evening for the 18th.  Go out on the 18th and further support our local businesses.  Repeat.
