Save Faith Dairy

After the closing of Faith Dairy last year, there was an outpouring of disbelief from the community. The recent announcement of Wilcox closing seemed like the last straw. What were local food eaters to do?

Local citizens have rallied around Faith Dairy in an effort to preserve the farmland and prevent it from becoming another subdivision. The effort was announced in the forums and has been written about on other blogs.

Now Monty Mahan of the Pierce Conservation District has weighed in on the issue. He brings an insiders perspective to why the dairy closed and how best to save it. The post is thought provoking and made us consider what it takes for a farmer to make it in this town.

Do you want to help? Support local food. And, while you’re at it, make yourself heard! Be sure that the farmers and our leaders know you care.

The post mentioned their troubles expanding their direct-sales customer base. I wonder if the talked-about Tacoma Food Co-Op could help them find more of these customers. Tacoma seems like a big enough market to support a dairy.
