Save NE Tacoma Joins Litigation
The community coalition Save NE Tacoma has joined in the City of Tacoma’s lawsuit against the developers seeking to redevelop the North Shore Golf Course. Their motion to intervene will be heard Friday the 22nd.
Don’t forget, the North Shore developers are also suing the City of Tacoma on charges of illegally blocking their development. So… this isn’t going to be pretty.
PRESS RELEASE
Save NE Tacoma, a coalition of more than 2500 concerned citizens in the Northeast Tacoma and Federal Way communities, filed a motion on February 13, 2008, in the Pierce County Superior to intervene as a party plaintiff in the City of Tacoma’s lawsuit against Northshore Investors, LLC, and North Shore Golf Associates, Inc.
The City of Tacoma’s lawsuit seeks a declaratory ruling from the Superior Court requiring Northshore Investors, LLC, and North Shore Golf Associates, Inc., to abide by existing zoning rulings, restrictive covenants and contractual obligations to keep and maintain the North Shore Golf Course for golf course and open space use.
The coalition was formed over a year ago in an effort to prevent the tragedy of losing the last significant open space in the Northeast Tacoma area as Northshore Investors seeks to develop the North Shore Golf Course into 860 plus housing units.
Under advice of the group’s legal team, Save NE Tacoma is seeking to intervene in the lawsuit and join with the City of Tacoma in the legal proceedings to help preserve and protect the Northeast Tacoma neighborhood.
“The decisions that will be made in this lawsuit will deeply affect the quality of life for the residents of NE Tacoma,” said Gary Huff, one of Save NE Tacoma’s attorneys. “It is critical that the people most affected have their day in court.”
Save NE Tacoma’s motion to intervene will be heard by Judge D. Gary Steiner on February 22, 2008.
This is the one of the many steps Save NE Tacoma has taken in its ongoing effort to stop over-development of residential areas and maintain the quality of life in the Northeast Tacoma neighborhood.

This if the City/residents lose this lawsuit it will not be the last as there are many opportunities to derail this project.
However, this one is more critical in that it could throw the whole project out rather than just modify it. This suit is aimed at determining if the old plat language and protections (~1980) restricting the use of the site are still valid.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. (‘cause I’m a planning nerd.)

A coalition of 2,500 concerned citizens? Really? 2,500? Is this literary license? I can see 2,500 citizens, but CONCERNED citizens? Let’s be real here!
