Show TAM the Art in the #253StreetArt Contest

Here’s something fun to keep in mind as you find yourself around Tacoma this weekend and for the next couple weeks; the Tacoma Art Museum invites you to share your photos of the everyday colors and textures of the streets of Tacoma.

Enter the Tacoma Art Museum-Eric Carle Street Art Instagram Contest.

Show us the art you see every day in the lines and colors of the streets where you live and you might just win our #253StreetArt Contest!

Tacoma Art Museum is holding a photo contest inspired by artist Eric Carle – who sees art in everything from the colorful lines in a parking lot to the patterns and bumps on the sidewalk.

Upload your StreetArt pictures to Instagram with the tag #253StreetArt by Sunday, July 7. We’ll upload our favorite pics to our Facebook page! The winner will receive an Eric Carle gift package including a copy of Beyond Books signed by artist Eric Carle AND a membership to Tacoma Art Museum. Upload and tag your StreetArt today!

Sounds like a fun way to reconsider Tacoma.

You might recognize Carle's work from the classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

If the name sounds familiar, but you can’t quite place it, maybe you know his work from the children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Carle has done over 70 picture books done in his colorful collage technique. The TAM exhibit goes beyond those pieces, putting on display paintings, sculptures, and personal sketches that he has been making privately for more than 60 years, starting with his career as a poster artist in the 1940s and carrying through to the street photographs he is shooting today.

If you missed seeing the Eric Carle exhibit at last night’s Third Thursday Art Mingle, you can still catch his work through July 7.
