Simpson Kraft Renewable Energy

It seems like we’re hearing a lot of good news coming out of the Tideflats recently. The Port has announced several new contracts. TOTE’s industrial rain garden garnered it an environmental award. And now the Simpson Tacoma Kraft pulp mill’s renewable energy production has drawn attention from the federal Department of Energy.

According to the TNT, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman visited the facility yesterday for a tour of the renewable energy plant, which uses pulp and other byproducts of their paper-making to fuel steam-generation. That energy is harnessed as electricity, and sold as renewable energy.
