So Many Events, So Little Weekend

It’s that time of year again, where there are more things happening in Tacoma than you can shake a stick at, and certainly more than you could make it to all in one day. Here are a couple that caught our eye:

Plant Conservation Day
This time of year it seems that everything is in bloom, and the exotic flora at the Point Defiance Zoo is no exception. The zoo invites the public to participate in a full day of green-thumb activities, including chances to try your hand at landscaping, test your bamboo identification skills, and take a horticultural walking tour.

When: Saturday, May 19, Tours at 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Where: Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium
Cost: Free with zoo admission.
Details: www.PDZA.org

And of course spring is baby animal time at the zoo. Along with the brand new red wolf pups born this week, don’t forget the clouded leopard cubs and baby meerkats Marvin, Manny, Marie and Mae.

SEEKing Common Ground
If you’re looking for something a little more thought-provoking, you might consider the conversation sponsored by Associated Ministries and the Tacoma Art Museum this Saturday: “SEEKing Common Ground: a dialogue about art, faith, and sexuality.” The event is based on the controversial and award-winning HIDE/SEEK exhibit currently on at TAM. In a partnership between Tacoma-area congregations and TAM, this program features a “fishbowl” dialogue with local religious leaders from various faiths respectfully sharing their viewpoints about topic areas brought up by the exhibition HIDE/SEEK. The dialogue will be moderated by Reverend Chris Morton of Associated Ministries

When: Saturday, May 19, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Tacoma Art Museum, 1701 Pacific Avenue
Cost: Free with museum admission.
Details: Learn more on the Tacoma Art Mueseum events page or from Associated Ministries
