South Downtown Planning - Public Feedback Wanted

This Thursday, December 1st, at 4:00 p.m. the City of Tacoma will host a community meeting to get feedback on the direction of future development of south downtown Tacoma.

The area covered includes the Dome District, the Brewery District, the Thea Foss Waterway, and the UWT campus.

When: Thursday, December 1st, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Where: Carwein Auditorium at UWT, 1900 Commerce St, Keystone Bldg, Rm 102

The idea is that this work will help to develop a long range plan for the south end of downtown and complete the pre-development environmental review of the area. This should ultimately reduce development uncertainties and risks for future projects. We’ve heard a lot of ideas about what south downtown can be. What would you like to see for South Downtown in 10 years? 20 years? 30?

I’m really encouraged by this move by the City. A blanket EIS for South Downtown is such a smart thing to do. Hopefully this will be just the first in a line of other measures that we can replicate for the other mixed use centers.
