Spaceworks Invites You To Mingle

Spaceworks Tacoma wants you at its Creative Kick-Off during this month’s Third Thursday Art Mingle (the event formerly known as Third Thursday Art Walk), this Thursday, May 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. They want you to see what their creative entrepreneurs have been up to, check out new installations, and learn about the Spaceworks program.
You’ll have the chance to visit current and alumni Spaceworks projects, including installations in the Woolworth Windows at 11th and Broadway, and the Tollbooth Gallery will be open again, across from the Woolworth Windows, featuring works from Tacoma’s film and video artists.
Spaceworks’ Creative Enterprises, including alumni projects will also open their doors tomorrow night to share their wares. Fabitat offers their Graffiti Art class from 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursdays and N. Dybevik and special guests will be performing from 6 - 6:30. Two brand new Creative Enterprises will launch tomorrow evening as well.
Spaceworks Coordinator Heather Joy will offer a short Spaceworks Informational Workshop. Geared to potential applicants or anyone interested in learning more, Joy will share information about the upcoming application deadline and the three Spaceworks tracks: Artscapes, Special Project Residencies and Creative Enterprise. Two identical workshops will be held from 5 - 5:45 pm and 7 – 7:45 pm at Write@253 located at 1310 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
We haven’t had a chance to check out the installations, but we like what Seattle artist Jennifer Zwick has to say about hers, called “Bed Dress.”
As though life weren’t anxious enough, we’re expected to get out of bed every single morning. But it’s so safe here! No one judging us, a place of comfort; the morning, when our day is unmarred, uniquely filled with the potential of all we might accomplish. Wouldn’t it be easier to avoid the transition from bed to daily life? To simply stand up, already elegantly clothed, and roll away on casters, safe in the knowledge that when our shortcomings grow too tall and our expectations fall, we can just lie back down again, wherever we are. You can’t judge me – I’m still in bed.
Sounds good to us. Learn more about Spaceworks, and read more from current artists at www.SpaceworksTacoma.com
Walking maps will be available at this week’s Broadway Farmers’ Market and at the Woolworth Windows, as well as online at SpaceworksTacoma.com
