State Awards Funds to Tacoma Area Affordable Housing Projects
The Daily Index reported this week that the Washington State Department of Commerce awarded nearly $3 million from its total Housing Trust Fund to affordable housing in Tacoma and Pierce County. Of that $3 million, $2 million will go to Tacoma Housing Authority, $450,000 to the Pierce County Coalition for Developmental Disabilities, and $500,000 Habitat for Humanity of Tacoma/Pierce County.
Projects funded will provide affordable housing to area residents at or below 80% of the area median income, and will include both multiple family rentals and single family homeownership programs. Funding will go in part to support new construction and renovation of aging housing, and promises to generate jobs – mainly through initial construction projects, but also a smaller number of ongoing employment locally.
This is a good thing.
