T-Town Dogs
Ken Dunmire serves up T-Town Dogs signature Tacoma Dog. Just for the record, we did ask him to smile.
First up. YUM! These are good hot dogs at a good price.
The Business:
T-Town Dogs is owned by Ken Dunmire and his son Kyle. They appear to have gotten all their ducks (or dogs) in a row in setting up the business. In preparation to run the hot dog cart, and the commissary that serves as a base for the food cart the owners of Dunmire Enterprises were the first to complete the Pierce County Health Department’s pilot food cart program. After completing the program, and setting up their cart and facilities, T-Town Dogs is finally up and running. In this first week of business, Ken Dunmire says he’s been getting a good response. He’s excited to be leading the way with street vending in downtown Tacoma, and says he loves being across the street from the museum.
Dunmire Enterprises is also ready to design, build, and service carts for other food vendors. The small business will help set up the food carts and the commissaries they will need to use as bases for their operations to meet Health Department regulations. First up: a couple women who plan to be down next to him selling sandwiches. Dunmire’s goal is to really bring people into the plaza and get folks starting to use the space. T-Town Dogs doesn’t have a website/Facebook/Twitter yet, but Dunmire says his sons are working on them, and they should be up soon.
The Food:
T-Town Dogs offers great tasting all beef dogs (big thick ones nearly an inch in diameter) with all sorts of toppings, along with basic soft drinks. Dunmire’s signature item, called the Tacoma Dog, is a hot dog covered with bacon bits, creamy nacho cheese and a drizzle of Sriracha Hot Sauce. Boo-Ya! It sure hit the spot on a cold, but sunny day. We would definitely eat there again. Especially on one of these clear, crisp days we’ve been having. Let’s see, only how many hours until lunchtime? …
It’s great to see a food cart operating downtown, and even more exciting to think about the possibility that T-Town Dogs may have company soon. Once we started thinking about the other foods we’d like to see, our imaginations got the better of us – oh the possibilities… What would you like to see next in the way of food carts?

This is great for downtown — and I’ll eat there as soon as they get veggie dogs.

I’m a expatriated New Yorker – gotta have a pretzel cart. The big thick hot kind with a little less than too much salt joined with a some top-shelf mustard. Just for good measure, it must be wrapped in a piece of flimsy wax paper.
Other carts Tacoma needs:
1. Halal cart. Lamb, pitas, and so on.
2. Fruit cart. Can be year round, with seasonal offerings. Lemonade in summer. Ring up one of the farmers markets, work with them to stock fresh goods.
3. Breakfast/bakery cart. Hot coffee, yummy pastries, possibly loaves of bread and/or bagels.
4. Waffle cart. Because how many places have waffle carts?

Are all the carts going to be around one area of Pacific Ave? We need something in lower Pacific Ave, too. Preferably not junk food or processed meats.

If the people who have the Peruvian stand at the Thursday Farmers Market would do a cart, Squid would eat there every day.
