Tacoma: A Real Solid Market
USA Today called out Tacoma tonight as a “solid” real estate market amidst a lot of national turmoil.
There’s some interesting real-estate news (median prices are up just slightly, despite a substantial dip in sales volume). Tacoma, thanks to its solid employment base, is doing pretty well compared to a lot of other places. Good to see that.
But we thought this part was interesting.
Tacoma also attracts some homeowners who work in Seattle. “They prefer the less-urban locale, and they like to maintain their quality of life here because it’s more affordable,” Maddock [the president of the Tacoma-Pierce County Association of Realtors] says.
Sigh. We’re a bedroom community once again … But at least we’re not hardscrabble.
(Thanks, Jake)

Hmmmm… I think the angle on this is wrong.
Let’s say you’re a rich Russell executive and you have your office downtown… the Missus reigns in the tudor in Old Town… what to do with your mistress and gun collection?
KETRON ISLAND, Baby!

Like Tacoma, yet hate it? Set yourself apart on secluded Ketron Island.
Gotta admit, it would just the place to ride out a zombie uprising.

There were issues with water supply a few years back – don’t know if that ever got resolved, but it did limit development drastically.
