Tacoma Arts In Review: Third Thursday Kicks of a Jam-packed Arts and Culture Weekend
Third Thursdays fill the streets of Tacoma with character and culture. From gallery openings to public art, Third Thursdays offer art, education and community. This upcoming Third Thursday is particularly arts-filled and kicks off an exciting, arty weekend. Here are our top picks:
THURSDAY
The Tacoma Art Museum will address all three of these elements at the What is Community? Symposium. This event, programmed as a component of the Museum’s exhibition “Mighty Tacoma,” includes a panel discussion and the premier of ethnographic mini-documentaries from the Evergreen College Tacoma video project, featuring interviews highlighting the perspective of active art enthusiasts. Join in the Spaceworks Spring Opening celebration at Chris Sharp and Jeremy Gregory’s studio. The opening will feature the work of both Sharp and Gregory and celebrate the new Spaceworks installations and projects downtown.

SATURDAY

The fourth annual Alder Arts Walk from the University of Puget Sound. Students present bands, art, film and poetry, using their homes along Alder Street as free venues all day long. Alder Street, across from the University of Puget Sound campus. More information here.

Finish at the Rainbows Over Tacoma social at the Washington State History Museum. PFLAG Tacoma and the Rainbow Center host a musical evening featuring performances by Oasis Youth, Seattle Women’s Chorus, Sensible Shoes, Sylvia O’Stayformore, and Kim Archer.

SUNDAY
Get family friendly and check out the Kids Design Glass program at the Museum of Glass. In MOG’s studio, children design glass sculptures and once a month, one is chosen to be created in the Museum’s Hot Shop by their team of artists. The chosen child designer oversees the process and gets to take a finished sculpture home. A great way to relax and watch art come to life! General museum admission, 12-5 pm, 1801 Dock Street.
