Tacoma As Corporate Destination?

Dan Voelpel’s column today welcomes KOMPAN, the playground equipment manufacturer, to Tacoma with:

The headline reads, “KOMPAN to move North American/Asia-Pacific headquarters to Tacoma.”

And we wonder, “Who’s KOMPAN?”

Just one of the biggest corporations you’ve probably never heard of and – by Sept. 1 – the newest player in downtown Tacoma’s growth as a destination of choice for corporate headquarters.

We’re growing as a ‘destination of choice for corporate headquarters’?

One of the things that really struck me in my survey of Exit133 readers is the lack of optimism when it comes to relevant job creation.  So are we missing out on our status as a ‘growing destination’ or are we simply being realistic about our job prospects in the future Tacoma?  Nothing against small companies (KOMPAN will bring 30 people to Tacoma), but many professionals find themselves in niches more relevant to larger companies.  When can we celebrate a new large corporate presence in town?

By the way – Welcome KOMPAN.  We like it here.

This a worthy project and just hope the City of Tacoma will look favorably on this worthy project as it means alot to the ASIA PACIFIC COMMUNITY.
I trust that the Asia Pacific leaders in the organisation will be able to meet the demands required by the city so we can have our own center where we can meet and showcase our identity.

    Thanks.

The project would be awesome if they could pull it off.

Needs far more housing density though.
