Tacoma Bike Tea Party - Nov 29th

We’ve been working hard to get our friends outside this year via bicycle or running shoes. Well, our fine friends at Tacoma Bike have an even better idea …

It’s been a great year for the cycling scene in Tacoma. Public transport policy is moving along, people are riding well into the Fall and the city’s newest bike shop, Tacoma Bike, is celebrating its first year in business.

Whilst reading Bicycle: The History by David V. Herlihy, the staff at Tacoma Bike were inspired by an early American cycling club who, restricted to minimal physical Sunday activity by the religious traditions of the time, would join for a short ride to a local tea shop and converge for afternoon tea and cake. They would then move onto a pub where their alcoholic lubrication would lead to merriment and singing songs. So being partial to a good brew (Tea and Beer) and lovers of fine cake, Tacoma Bike have decided to host their own celebratory one-off Sunday Social ride in the same vein.

“We’re having a double-edged celebration – one for the whole family and one for the over 21s.” says Mike Brown, Tacoma Bike’s Owner. “We wanted to celebrate the end of a great summer season and say thank you to all our customers and supporters.” Having an English Gentleman in store, Tony Corke, the natural choice was a tea party. Tobin Ropes of Mad Hat Tea Company on Division was all for it and has worked to include Corina Bakery in the mix supplying cakes.

So tighten those fender bolts, slap on a smile and join in for what promises to be a jolly old time. It would be a perfect time to break in a new pair of these shoes.
