Tacoma Christmas - Drink to Dec. 3rd

Wine. Its the you-can-never-go-wrong gift. But if you are like me and stare blankly at the racks in the grocery store, buying it is always a gamble. Enter the local wine shop.

Tacoma has a number of great locally owned wine shops. Don’t be intimidated. (I was.) They are owned and run by friendly all-knowing wine folks. And their prices aren’t bad either. For example, you are going to a holiday party at the neighbors house and would like to bring a good bottle of wine without spending a fortune. Enter Tacoma Wine Merchant Bill. He picks out a great bottle of red to go with dinner for $9. Everyone remarks on the great wine. You come out a hero.

Whatever your needs, these local wine sellers can help.

Bill Bonnie is da bomb. He is very knowledgeable but definitely the anti-snob. I am a regular purchaser of his “recession buster” mixed case of 6 whites and 6 reds, out the door for $100, a brilliant concept and an exceptional price.

Hang out with Bill and before you know it you will be debating the merits of Mourvedre vs. Malbec.

Be sure to check out Vinum!

It’s at 1001 Pacific Avenue. (formerly Bernardo’s Aroma Cafe)

Great looking selection. It’s a coffee and wine lounge with great food too so you can sample before you buy!

One of Bill’s specialty is picking out a mixed case of wine. Just tell him your price range and type of wine you like and let him do the magic. Then he discounts the case by 10 percent.
