Tacoma City Marathon This Weekend - A Chance To Cheer and Road Closures
The Tacoma City Marathon is this weekend, and that means there will be some road closures you may want to be aware of.

Street closures and restricted access to City streets on May 5
To accommodate the Tacoma City Marathon on Sunday, May 5, there will be restricted access to most City streets for the duration of the event from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Detour routes will be posted.
Street closures: North 26th Street between Adams and Proctor streets.
Restricted access: Southbound lane of Ruston Way and the northbound lane of Schuster Parkway, including the I-705 off-ramp and from 7th Street and Pacific Avenue to Ruston Way.
City of Ruston: Various residential streets will be closed in Ruston.
The marathon starts at 7:00 a.m. from the Tacoma Narrows Airport, heads across the Narrows Bridge, through Point Defiance, and along the Ruston Way waterfront before heading into downtown Tacoma. There will be a 5k starting at 7:30 at the Tacoma Art Museum and other staging going on around Tollefson Plaza and the Tacoma Art Museum most of the morning. If you’re looking for a spot to cheer from, check out the Tacoma City Marathon Spectator Guide. Oh, and be warned; the official post race festivities will be at the Swiss from noon to 2:30.
To all our friends who will be running this weekend, have a great race. We’ll be cheering you on.

Hopefully the city has put up warning signs already about the upcoming closures, last year there were some irate, late for church folks writing nasty letters to the trib.
I’m looking forward to seeing the times from this new course, not just on the full, but also the half. Good luck and good health to every one of the runners and a big THANK YOU in advance to all the wonderful volunteers.

What a Great Day! We were at the water station on Shirley Street. It was so fun to get up early and see the Marathon Maniacs coming through. Then with bicycles leading the way, it was easy to see when the main group came through. It was fun keeping all the water, sports drink and power gel going to the runners. Who also voiced their appreciation. Fun for all!

The grumpy poop has spoken! She hit the Trib’s LTE this morning (online last night). Oh my, the horror and inconvenience of all those nasty, sweaty and inconsiderate runners in their ridiculous little race. Why, she was on her way to a luncheon and we were all in her way and we destroyed the entire City of Tacoma economy for the entire year.
