Tacoma Contemporary Opens Tollbooth Gallery

Honky Tonkin’, a mixed media installation by Justin Colt Beckman, will be the first exhibit to grace the Tollbooth Gallery since Tacoma Contemporary (TaCo) assumed responsibility for the space. Beckman’s work is a preliminary study for a full-scale honky-tonk bar that he plans to construct in Fall 2008.

For seven years TaCo has presented art installations in the windows of the Woolworth Building, but now the Tollbooth, with a new LCD monitor and DVD player, will begin presenting video and mixed media installations bimonthly at the video kiosk at Broadway and 11th in Tacoma’s Theater District.
