Tacoma Dome Bond - Round Two
So it appears that city leaders are going to bring the Tacoma Dome bond measure back to the voters. The article states:
Dome backers say the facility generates $42 million in annual economic impact for Tacoma, and attracts nearly 1 million visitors per year. It hosts more than 300 event-days per year, including graduations, family shows, consumer shows and high school sporting events.
It’s great that a million people are coming to events at the Dome. How many of those people are actually spending money elsewhere in the city? Other than a couple of (formerly really smokey) diners and pub or two, there is nothing between the Dome and I-5. I would be curious to see a more detailed accounting of the economic impact of the Tacoma Dome. Anybody want to send it my way?
On a side note – This last weekend the Tacoma Dome hosted the Monster Jam and Wedding Expo on the same day. I can imagine the parking lot scene – Sweet couples nearly getting run down by monster trucks full of mullets. Now there’s some entertainment. It sure beats Kenny Chesney.
