Tacoma Fire Commemorates Sept. 11

We may be across a continent from New York City, but we felt the events of September 11, 2001 just as strongly as the rest of the country.

So, holding up our end of “sea to shining sea” on the 7th anniversary of that day, tomorrow the Tacoma Fire Department will honor the lives that were lost, and those that were risked to save them. The ceremony begins at 9 am, and will include speeches by Mayor Bill Baarsma, Fire Chief Ron Stephens, and Firefighter Colin Sterr from the New York City Fire Department. The event will be held at the Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial on Ruston Way.

Correction alert!! The TNT stated that Colin Sterr was at the twin towers that day. Quite wrong.

Colin Sterr just recently became a New York fire fighter. He was a Tacoma fire fighter before that, but I wouldn’t doubt it if he tells everyone he was there at the time.

The comment I made was before the speech, based on what the Trib had said about the upcoming event.

No romantic relationship, just know him. Now again though, I was snarky and that was uncalled for. I’m sure he was clear during the event, it was just the Trib with it’s stellar fact gathering.

    Sorry I was grumpy.
