Kickstart the South Puget Sound's First Guidebook!

Update: (3/14) 267 backers and they’ve hit their goal. Nice work!

Update: (3/12) As of this morning, there are only four days left on the Kickstarter countdown for the South Sound Users’ Guide, and the project is still about $1,500 short of the amount they need to get funded. So, if it’s been on your to-do list, or if you’ve been on the fence about it, this is the week to make your move.

Tacoma lacks a good guidebook. This fact has not gone unnoticed by a group of locals, which includes some familiar names and faces.

Chris Sharp, Sean Alexander, and Ken Miller have come together to try to fund a unique project to showcase Tacoma’s special places, events and people. The book will feature the best of the South Puget Sound area from voices throughout our community, alongside pen and ink sketches by Sean. The project is on Kickstarter with levels of funding from $1 to $1,000 or more, each with its own thank you gift.

Earlier this week Mayor Strickland encouraged Tacomans to find their extra. If you’ll permit us a moment of corniness, we think it’s in projects like this one. What makes Tacoma special to us is the moments and spaces where we come together – this winter’s success of Polar Plaza, the general communal joy and wonder of Monkeyshines, public comment, RR Anderson cartoons, the coming together over the last few years of the Broadway neighborhood, the Zina Linnik Project, and more. Those moments when Tacomans come together to support each other’s efforts in our neighborhoods and community.

Here’s your chance to support your fellow Tacomans and to contribute to a truly unique project. As we write this, they’re at just over $5,000 on their way to $22,000 We’ve got at least $5 in our wallet, how about you?

So, if we’re looking for ways to locate our extra, maybe this is it.

p.s. We think every hotel room at the Hotel Murano should pre-purchase a book now … and the Courtyard by Marriott too. Hint. Hint.

I think I just saw this 3 hours ago on another news site…

Wow, such negativity … And it was on the TNT last week sometime. Different places and most likely different readers. My guess is that the press releases have been going to everybody.
