Tacoma Jail Forum on Mar. 20, 2008
In an effort to raise community awareness of the increasing problems surrounding the Pierce County Jail, the New Tacoma Neighborhood Council, Central Neighborhood Council and the Hilltop Action Coalition are hosting a community forum.
We mentioned this a few weeks ago. However, we now have more details and… it’s just two days away.
The panel will consist of: Pierce County Prosecutor Gerry Horne, Sheriff Paul Pastor, Superior Court Presiding Judge Tom Larkin, Municipal Court Presiding Judge David Ladenburg and Tacoma Police Chief Ramsdell.
Tareena Joubert will facilitate the panel and questions.
From the press release:
“This is an extremely important issue, especially in light of recent news of low levels of Jail staffing, the backlog of court cases and the rapid release of inmates,” Jeanie Peterson, Director of Community Initiatives for the Hilltop Action Coalition said. “Community input and awareness is absolutely important so we can find real solutions.”
Other sponsors include City Club of Tacoma, all of Tacoma’s neighborhood councils and business districts, and the BIA.

Thank you, Exit 133, for reporting on a public safety issue. Pierce County citizens suffer a rate of violent crime double that of the state average. It’s an issue, which has inflicted so much pain on far too many of our neighbors for much too long.
In many ways, addressing the public safety puzzle is a cornerstone for everything else inspired citizens, such as those behind Exit 133, seek to accomplish in this town.
Again, thank you!
