"Tacoma" on Kickstarter
If you’ve always dreamed of becoming a big shot movie producer, but were held back by your refusal to move to Hollywood due to your deep love of Tacoma, we have the perfect opportunity for you…
Co-producers Linnea Freed Hess and Stewart Thorndike are working on a film set in our fine town and borrowing its name. They describe it as “a thriller about a real estate agent that wanted to be a dancer,” and the trailer is intriguingly ambiguous. Where do you come in? You’re the big money. They’ve taken the project to Kickstarter for seed funding, and you can get a piece of the action starting at only $10. With 4 days to go, they’re $2k away from their $7k goal.
We’re thinking at least the $50 level, which gets you a Tacoma the movie t-shirt, is a good place to start. Although, we’re eyeing the $500 level, which comes with the t-shirt, a printed film noir still from the shoot, a chance to be an extra on the film or name a character (oh, the possibilities), and, last, but certainly not least, “handmade legwarmers with the color palette from the film.” Oh yeah …
All supporter levels get credit on the film website, and the sense of satisfaction of knowing that you were a part of bringing that Tacoma magic to the big screen.
Hess and Thorndike are both Bellarmine Prep grads. Stewart relocated to New York City to study acting before attending NYU Graduate film school. Her thesis film TESS AND NANA premiered at SXSW before going on the festival circuit. She is a contributing editor for the New York Times and works primarily shooting short films for the fashion industry in NYC.

And it looks like they hit the target. When do we get to see the final product?

I looked at the clip. The character who wants to abandon her real estate job for a dancing career had better stick with real estate.

I’m curious, Fredo…what does your last comment mean?

I think that fredo is saying that she’s not a good dancer.
