Tacoma's Landmarks Preservation Commission Wants You

Do you care about Tacoma? Love old buildings and want to see them preserved? Love sitting in meetings and holding people to the letter of the law? Feel like you could be doing more to contribute to your community? Then the City may have a place for you on the Historic Landmarks Commission.

Three seats are available on the Commission’s 11 member, City Council-appointed board. The Commission is tasked with overseeing the establishment and regulation of landmarks, local historic districts, proposed name changes for public facilities, and certain property tax incentives. Citizen volunteer commission members serve three-year terms; meetings are at 5:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

To fill current vacancies, the City is looking for someone who is or has been a certified architect; an individual with professional experience or training relating to historic preservation; and a resident, property owner, or business owner from the Wedge Neighborhood to serve as a non-voting ex-officio member.

To ensure consideration, applications are due no later than Fri., April 13. To apply, contact Cindy DeGrosse, Mayor’s Office, (253) 594-7848, or visit the City of Tacoma’s Committees, Boards, and Commissions page for an application.
