Tacoma Schools Wants SOTA Space
According to the TNT, the Tacoma School Board voted this morning to begin negotiations to purchase its SOTA space in the 1100 block of S. Broadway. After putting $2 million in improvements in the property while paying $30k a month on the lease, the time seemed right to buy – particularly given the extra cash from the sale of Roger’s Elementary last year. The rest of the building remains owned by Broadway Investors, LLC who keeps hinting at two more stories to be built on top of the building. That could be interesting…

Broadway Investors filed plans with the city several months ago to build the two additional stories. It would be a nice addition, as Broadway has become a popular business address as of late due to the lack of new office space downtown. Recent arrivals include Kompan and the USGS. There certainly seems to be a market for it, and no one can seem to get new office space to pencil…so downtown can use as much new space as it can get.
With more office workers downtown, we might just be able to create that urban environment Russell craves so badly.
