Tacoma to get Apple Store?
There’s a rumor floating around the internets that Tacoma will be home to a new Apple Store in the near future. Where, you ask? The mall. Not the downtown location we’d like but hey, anything is better than Southcenter.

Source? I’ve heard the same rumor has been floating around the mall as well. I sent a long note to Apple back in March about how I’d help open the store with my bare hands and received a nice note back from the woman who works in their real estate department. She said “We look forward to having a store in Tacoma in the future.” No when. No commitment. But… hope.
I’m concerned, however, that the state of the economy could null and void this hope.

Oh, duh. The craigslist. Sorry!

Source?
We’ve also confirmed it via a don’t-put-my-name-anywhere-near-this-story … really good source who has known for a while.

I don’t care if it’s in a mall or even a gas station. As long as we get one in Tacoma I’ll be thrilled!

Isn’t Southcenter now Called Dodge City?

I’m not a Mac guy.
But I still have the only Mac I have ever or ever will buy:
Just for the record, cramming a new hard drive into and installing OS X on that thing was decidedly not worth the effort.

Great, now I don’t have to drive to Renton

How much you wanna bet they put it in that new “lifestyle” section out by the main entry. I noticed a big empty space in there, seems to be pretty natural of a conclusion.
…that or they’ll wait ‘till (or if) the old Nordstrom’s gets torn down and replaced by more “lifestyle” shops.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this in the midst of all this excitement- but I have never been to an Apple Store! I am excited though, because I now own my first apple product: an iPhone. And I need a little case and new earbud thingies.

In the meantime, The MacStore @ Kent Station is better designed, features greater selection of 3rd party products, and has a staff that works full time. Quite knowledgeable folks as well, especially Bennie.

“I have never been to an Apple Store“
It is exactly like their products: Sterile and minimalist.
Personally, I find the bright fluorescent lights to be hard on the eyes for the first 5-10 minuets you’re in there.

As much as I’d love to see Apple open a store downtown, I’ve noticed there are very few places that have seen Apple locate in a local downtown area. Even Seattle didn’t get an Apple store downtown.
The closest I’ve seen is the one near where I grew up in Walnut Creek, CA – but then again, Walnut Creek’s downtown is more of a giant mall with most office/residential space pushed outward.

The store in Manhattan is doing well. Open 24 hours a day. I think that counts as downtown.
