Tacoma Twilight Criterium - June 12th, 2010
A bike race in downtown Tacoma!
Tim Waer from the Tacoma Pierce County Sports Commission came before the Downtown Merchant Group this morning to give them a heads up on a new event coming to Tacoma. The Tacoma Twilight Criterium will be held on June 12th, 2010. It is a high energy multi-lap short course cycling event that will circle Pacific and A Streets between 8th and 11th. The race is modeled after the hugely successful Boise Twilight Criterium and is already appearing on race calendars around the state. The race is made possible by the hard work of the Sports Commission, the fine folks at Tacoma Bike, and title sponsor Michelob Ultra.
Permits are pending now. A race director has just come on board.
Additional outreach and details will come out once the course is tightened up, the start times are narrowed down, and the permits are complete.
We’re excited. More details as they emerge.

Car traffic? In downtown? That shouldn’t be much of a problem…

Exit133 cycling jerseys? I’ll buy one and race the Category 5! I wish the circuit could have a vicious, short climb. Anyone who commutes in Tacoma knows that short, nasty climbs are what riding in downtown is all about.
