TAM Follow Up - Is Weber Upside Down?
So a question has been asked about whether TAM may have hung one its pieces in The Great American Thing upside down. From our reader:
While looking at the Max Weber piece I noticed his signature in the lower right hand corner. To my surprise the painting also had a signature in the upper left-hand corner as well. The left hand signature was bolder and upside down! I asked the gallery staff if the abstract painting was upside down or if the work could be displayed either way (?!). To my surprise, nobody at the museum had noticed the bolder signature and could not answer my question…
Ahhh… So who knows out there? Can anybody provide me with an image of the piece in question? I can’t find it online. If it is correct as is, why is there another signature on the piece? Given what I’ve seen of Weber’s work, a lot of his art could be hung either way and still seem relevant. Similarly, it amazes me that Chihuly’s large pieces ever get hung the same way twice. I’m getting off topic rapidly…
