Ok, perhaps it’s tryptophan or perhaps it’s the wine, but a glance inspired my own Ode’r de Tacoma (golly should this be on side ‘b’?.
Fog hanging like a shawl on a dawn Ruston jog
The trails of Defiance and Salmon Beach docks
Views of the Narrows from steep timbered cliffs
Crab hunting-berries at the Titlow complex
Commencement Bay coffee and drinks at the Swiss
Chihuly at UW and along the glass bridge
Watching the tug boats, and Johnny’s Dock fish
The worlds industry moves through us but never sees this.
Towering cranes shrink under Rainer’s volcanic watch
Europe, Asia, Mexico are just part of our cloth
Rose garden, Dalia’s and Owens beach too
Harmon, the link, the Spar, Parkways, Magoo’s
McKinley hill, South End, an entrepreneur’s wish
Dragon boat races and Maritime Fest
Los Compadares, Vien Dong, and long Spanish Steps
You have to live here ten years to discover what’s best
Argumentative debate between learned and smart
We’re great for the old timer or those just getting a start
We’re strong-willed and gracious, stingy and bold
Ours is a story that’s not often told
From SERA field soccer to meals in the park
If we were a boat I’d have to call us an Ark
For families and business, for youth and the old
Once you acquire the taste, then well, your sold
We love our city but it’s not cool to admit
