Thanksgiving Festivities
In case you hadn’t heard, this week’s going to be a short one due to Thanksgiving – which means, aside from family and food comas, a slew of events. In celebration of Thanksgiving you can look forward to the following festivities (And this is just for Wednesday and Thursday…):
Doyle’s Ugly Sweater Party
As a celebration of the holidays, and an opportunity to pre-funk for the long weekend, Doyle’s brings us a holiday tradition: their 6th annual Bad Sweater Party. This is your chance to bring out that ugly sweater, and spend Thanksgiving Eve with a whole lot of others sporting knit snowmen, reindeer, santas, trees and other symbols of the season. Anything with lights or sound effects definitely fits the category. The party goes from 7:00 to 11:30 p.m., with prizes awarded for the best worst sweaters to show. Event info on the Doyle’s Facebook page.
Norpoint Turkey Trot
Metro Parks brings you this annual 5k as an opportunity to get out of the house Thursday morning, and get a little exercise with your fellow Tacomans. Make room for all those delicious Thanksgiving dishes, and start the day doing something good for your body.
Yoga for Charity
If running’s not your thing, but you’d still like to treat your body to a little pre-indulgence workout, why not join Source Yoga’s Thanksgiving Yoga for Charity? At two locations (North Tacoma and University Place), you can re-center yourself before the craziness of turkey day begins. All proceeds for this event go to benefit Northwest Harvest, so you can sit down to your Thanksgiving dinner knowing that you helped feed those in need.
Tacoma Center Y
The Tacoma Center YMCA will be offering a few other workout options, including an early morning run at Pt Defiance, followed by coffee, and a 90-minute turkey burn-off class” in the gym. They will be open limited hours from 7:00 to 1:00, so get there early and enjoy the rest of your day guilt-free (more or less).
Honey the Parkway Ruined Thanksgiving
And whether you’ve had your morning workout or not, you may want to do a little post-Thanksgiving cool-down. What better way to wrap up a lovely holiday (or to drown out the memory, depending on how your day went), than by sipping from the Parkway’s lineup of winter beers. And don’t worry, with a four-day weekend, you’ll probably be mostly recovered before you have to go back to work Monday morning… mostly.
