The Candidates for Pierce County Executive
As you probably already know, the Tacoma Daily Index, Exit133, and KXOT-FM 91.7 have collaborated on a project to interview each of the four candidates currently running for Pierce County Executive. Now that we’ve posted the final interview this morning, we decided to pull all the interviews together into a bit of a recap.
Listen. Discuss. Vote.
Mike Lonergan
Executive Excellence
Pat McCarthy
Democrat
Calvin Goings

I’m too new to Pierce County to wade into this one deftly – however, have you head the one about the energizer ‘Bunney’ – he keeps ‘Going’ and ‘Going’….
I’ve not met McCarthy, though I suspect she runs the auditor’s office ably.
The ‘old white guy’ Lonergan may actually be the most interesting candidate of the bunch – a right leaning independent running in a democratic town with social service executive credentials.
My guess is that if Bunney or McCarthy don’t pull it out on first round partisan votes either Lonergan or Goings will steal it…
How that for waffling!

Nice work. Congratulations Exit 133 for pulling this off.

Don’t forget to get a clear and understandable statement from Mr. Mike Lonergan related to Mike’s support for RTID or results expected from “regional transportation investment district and shall convene a regional transportation investment district planning committee….” Washington Revised Code RCW 36.120.030: Planning committee — Formation. That I believe Mike supports, but Mike has yet to tell everybody how much this will cost whom or funding sources, where the funding comes from for most RTID activities and projects, and what each person within Pierce County will be expected to pay for RTID if they own any personal vehicle(s), and most-likely all the Washington exempt government and educational vehicles will be exempt from this RTID assessment fee? But, who knows for sure, Mike does.
Only Mike knows and all we need is his explanation about the RTID details now, so we could all find out about this RTID initiative later if he is elected, but no surprises here please when somebody is supporting the acronym RTID phrase used freely but impact understood by few.

Mr. Tooley , you made me laugh with this:
The ‘old white guy’ Lonergan may actually be the most interesting candidate of the bunch – a right leaning independent running in a democratic town with social service executive credentials.
The part you didn’t mention (or might not know) is that Lonergan has been elected and re-elected city-wide in Tacoma. In 2001 he beat out an appointed incumbent in the primary and won his seat by a nearly 2-1 margin over Debbie Regala’s daughter (Regala is the Democrat Senator from the 27th District). In 2005 he won by a larger margin than 2001. A right-leaning independent won big in a democrat town and has worked effectively with the left-leaning council.

the pierce county website is down. can’t get to the auditor’s page. can’t get poll info. i know it’s available other places but it seems ridiculous that the website would be down on the eve of the election. hey, pat mccarthy! how about you get your current job right before you ask us for a promotion!

It is ironic that the RCV results have not come forth yet and that McCarthy sent out that survey with every absentee. I think Bunney has cause for protest if he loses a close race. But then again this is Pierce County and we are suppose to trust thy elected officials.
