The Grand Cinema and Theater on the Square to Host Oscars Gala

UPDATE We have just been given word that the ballet performance for this event has been cancelled.

This article was prepared for Exit133 by our friend Scott Jobe. Scott is an (almost) life-long resident of Tacoma, who spent eight years in southern California being a musician before finding it was just as rewarding to write about music and films as it is to perform and create them. We look forward to hearing more from him about local music and film – Dan

The 83rd annual Academy Awards ceremony is less than a week away and this year, Tacoma is entering the A-list of awards parties. The Grand Cinema, in conjunction with Theatre on the Square, will be hosting a premier awards viewing party for all film enthusiasts.

Admission is $20 and the presentation of the little gold men is just the beginning. In connection with the five nominations that Black Swan received, the MLK ballet will perform just after 4 p.m., before the red carpet coverage. A catered dinner with desert and an El Gaucho sponsored “movie character” costume contest are also covered in the expense of the ticket.

As you begin to compile your lists of winning films, keep in mind that your picks will win you more than bragging rights at this party. The person with the most correct Oscar winning picks will win a “golden ticket” to the Grand Cinema – That’s one full year of free movies for you and a guest.

The Academy Awards are on Sunday February 27th and the Theatre on the Square doors will open at 4 p.m.. To get your tickets in advance and more information, visit the Grand Cinema web site.

The daymakers from embellish will be doing red carpet looks to help you win the contest, or just have as much fun as possible. Stop by and be embellished for the festivities.
