The Return of First Night - Get Ready!

Do you like music? Celebrations? Tacoma? Buttons? Pirates? Staying up late at night? Then you should be at this year’s First Night to ring in the new year.

If you’ve ever wondered what our downtown would look like with crowds of friends and couples and families wandering from activity to activity for hours, now’s your chance.

Downtown Tacoma promises to come alive this Monday night as First Night planners fill the Theater District with New Year’s Eve festivities. The LINK will be running until 1 a.m., restaurants are staying open late, street performers will be roaming,  and there’s seven — count ‘em — seven venues worth of programming to choose from, and fireworks at midnight.

Seven venues in the Theater District will be hopping all night with live music, performance, and fun activities for the whole family. Buy your button, and get discounts all over downtown Tacoma at museums, shops, and restaurants. Your $7 button (a whopping $8 if you wait until Dec. 31) will get you into the Museum of Glass, the Washington State History Museum, the Pantages, the Rialto, Theatre on the Square, Sanford & Sons and so much more.

We’ll be at several of the venues listening to music and finding old friends. If you see any of us, stop and say hello.

Join the rest of Tacoma for the last party of 2007, and stick around for the first party of 2008. It’s like two parties in one!

Visit First Night Tacoma for a list of the attractions and the deals.

First Night was a fabulous and fun time with only one glaring issue that hopefully will be corrected in the future.

While I understand that the Broadway Center can’t just give its services away, I was dissapointed that they were adding a $1 service fee to the sale of the buttons on the Evening of the event.

So, not only were day of buttons $8 (instead of $7, which I didn’t mind) but with the extra $1 fee, they ended up being $9 at the Broadway center. From what I heard the night of (and contary to info in the flyer and website) there were also buttons availabl at Sanford & Son the night of as well and they were only charging $8. If I didn’t have toddlers in tow, I would have made the treck to S&S.

When I explained to the ticket window that the website and flyer advertised the price at $8 only at the Broadway center, the window worker said “Yes, plus our $1 fee, we’re a non-profit and we’re not just giving away our sevices, $9, please.” I said there was no mention of the additional fee beyond the $8. He didn’t care.

When I asked a friend who was part of First Night Organizing, they told me that the $1 fee was supposed to be apart of the $8 cost.

I hope that First Night doesn’t allow the BCPA to double dip!
