The Rock Is Back
The Rock, purveyors of wood fired pizza in a sweet old building, closed a few months ago to undergo renovations promising to open a new, bigger, badder space. Well we got a sneak peak today and what we saw was pretty cool. The kitchen and lunch buffet space has been reconfigured to create a new bar space. The bear has been relocated. The decor has some sweet touches. They’ll be open on Friday. Any takers for lunch?
Mmm…. Pizza.

The pics look good but I just hope it doesnt feel like every other The Rock in western Washington. Every single one of them feels like a corporate chain restaurant carbon copy of the last one. I loved the original Tacoma Rock because it was so different from all the newer ones. It felt like an independent and local Tacoma restaurant-with its quirkiness intact.

I am new to Tacoma and was looking for a place to eat on Saturday and took my family in there. It was good atmosphere and like what they did with the old building. The food was good but it seemed like it took a while to get for just pizza. There was a good game on the big screen TV so did not mind. Except I got a parking ticket from the lot across the street. I thought after 5 PM on Saturday it should be free parking. If I knew I had to pay I would have parked further away.

Rick, Heather, Kyle and I went last Thurs and the new bar space is very cool. They also updated their menus so they match the other Rock locations, i.e. a bunch of sandwiches and a few new aps. It was, as alwasy, fantastic food!
