The Squeak and Squawk Music Festival Starts Tonight

The Helm and The New Frontier have collaborated on a sweet, five day, DIY music festival that will be starting tonight at 6PM. It is called The Squeak and Squawk and it is the first festival of its kind to ever happen in Tacoma. The festival will run from Thursday, October 16th (tonight) until Monday, October 20th. Each day will feature an all ages show at The Helm (6pm start times throughout) and a 21 and over show at The New Frontier (9pm start times). Throughout the five days, nearly 30 bands from out of area will be swinging into town to play with some of the best area talent. No two bands playing the festival sound alike and the lineup ranges from cello quartets to punk bands that play in their undies. Should be a good weekend to take in the music.

Highlights include Evangelicals, Parenthetical Girls, The Portland Cello Project, Calvin Johnson, The Dead Science, The Dutchess and The Duke, The Elephants, and Talbot Tagora. Prices on individual shows range from 5 to 8 dollars. Look inside this weeks Volcano for a special insert that includes all information regarding the festival.

Tonight:

6pm at the Helm for $5

Your Heart Breaks
Don’t Tell Sophie
Kusikia

8pm at The New Frontier for $8 (the only show with an 8pm start time)

The Portland Cello Project (four piece cello group from Portland) (usually an 8 to 10 piece)
Allan Boothe

Please come out and enjoy the music. If not tonight, sometime during the week.

Nice work, Helm guys, and thank you! This is just the kind of thing Tacoma needs.
