Thea's Market Coming to Downtown Tacoma

As noted by Kevin and the TNT, the 1300 square foot space in the base of Thea’s Landing that once housed Urban Dogs will become Thea’s Market. According to the TNT, the market will specialize in wine, cheese, meats, and Northwest food products in addition to some staples. While not a big shop, it’s still the first new market in downtown Tacoma in a very long time.

Downtown Tacoma grocery store rumors come and go. It’s good to see something finally arrive. We look forward to checking it out.

This is good news… but could someone tell Tacoma Boys Grocery to move into the USA of Yesterday spot. That’d be grand… I think it’d make a perfect Tacoma Boys!!!

Thank you for allowing me to sponsor grocery store rumor #89. I appreciate it.

Oh, sorry… AND move USA of Yesterday down by the location of the new car museum…

If the hotel ever gets built between Theas Landing and The Esplanade I think this store would do some great business. And maybe there’s a huge untapped market with all those boaters in the water just needing bread, meats, cheeses, and the like. It’s also not too far a walk from all the action on Pacific. People just need to know it’s down there.

    12pk. MGD $8.99?

That’s a good point, CA. It should also try to attract some museum traffic. Some folks don’t want to pay $15 for a sandwich at the museum cafe. That spot is probably the best location for a grocery store on the Dock Street side of the building. It’s no surprise that retail really hasn’t taken off down there. There simply aren’t enough people, and those who do venture down Dock Street get blasted by 130 decibels of BNSF locomotives.

This is off the subject, but I wonder if the closure of A Street will stop all the blasting of the horns.

Just to clarify is the spot between the Thea’s Landing and the Esplanade slated for a hotel? Or is that the spot where the plan was recently revised/resubmitted to be mostly office space, with some residential and retail?

1300 sf “grocery store”. Yah sure ya betcha!

I am amazed that Urban Dog lasted as long as it did. Very niche market there.

And it is likely that Thea’s Market will be rather niche as well. Think Yup-scale C-store.

“$15 for a sandwich at the Museum Cafe – forget that – I can get one for $14.95 at Thea’s Market!”

    Heather,
Between Thea’s Landing and the Esplanade is where the Hotel (with a ever shrinking amount of condos) is planned. It is being developed by the guy that owns Inn at the Market in Seattle.

The revised Prium office project is south of Alber’s Mill.
