This Weekend: Goldfish Tavern Beer Garden
We were sorry to see the Goldfish Tavern close last Halloween, so we were glad when we began to hear about new life for the iconic bar on the doorstep of Point Defiance.
And now, the Tacoma Weekly reports that the Goldfish will be operating a beer garden this weekend in conjunction with the Taste of Tacoma.
The bar is under new ownership, and there are plans to reopen with a similar look and feel to the old ‘Fish. They’re not there yet, but the new owners are working hard to reopen.
The old building needs a lot of work to bring it back up to code, and there are plans to improve the amenities and expand the menu. Hours will also be expanded - with breakfast and lunch offerings, beginning as early as 7 a.m. with breakfast sandwiches for all those park walkers and runners.
This weekend the beer garden hours will mirror those of the Taste - 11 to 9 Friday and Saturday, and 11 to 8 Sunday. They won’t be open inside, but they’ve got the permit for the outdoor space, and the weather looks like it couldn’t be more cooperative. There’s even talk of a 4th of July beer garden as well.
We’ve always thought the Goldfish’s location next to the park would make it a great spot for outdoor dining/drinking. Maybe if the beer garden is a success they’ll consider making it more permanent.
