This Weekend: Historic Homes Tour 2012
The Tacoma Historical Society invites you to join them for their 2012 Historic Homes
of Tacoma Tour this weekend.
The tour typically includes eight or nine private homes plus a reception center, usually a historic church. Ticket books, purchased in advance, contain a brief history of each home and a map. Homes may be visited in any order during tour hours. Tacoma Historical Society docents guide visitors through each home. Restrooms, refreshments and souvenirs are available at the Reception Center.
This year’s Tour includes Christ Episcopal Church and Welles Hall (310 North K St.). The Christ Episcopal Church organ master will be performing on the 17th Century-style pipe-organ on Saturday from noon till 2 pm. Also on the tour is the Annie Wright School, three Four-Square-style homes on North Starr St, in Old Town and four homes in the Proctor District.
Dating back to 1993 the Tacoma Historical Society holds its Historic Homes annually on the first weekend in May. This is your chance to see some of the best preserved finest specimens of Tacoma’s historic homes. It’s a chance for the homeowners to show off the results of their investments, both financial and in terms of blood, sweat, tears, research, and time.
Christ Episcopal Church at 310 North K Street will be this year’s reception area. Purchase your tickets ahead of time or the day of the tour at the Tacoma Historical Society’s Resource Center at 3712 South Cedar Street or at select locations. For a list of those locations and further questions, see the tour FAQ (pdf).
