Titlow Pool Moving to Kandle Park?

The News Tribune is reporting that Metro Parks will vote November 10th on whether to replace the 50 year old Titlow Pool with a new facility at Kandle Park. If approved, the master planning process will begin to get the details in order.

There goes my plan for a state of the art off-leash dog park at Kandle. If people get all nimby about dogs, just wait until the swimmers show up.

I’m suddenly imagining a bunch of people in swimsuits turning a field into mud and rolling around in it.

I hope that the planning comission is considering putting blue bag dispensers around to clean up after the swimmers.

I know, very funny. But ask the neighbors there how they feel about having Kandle, a small park, turned into a major swim complex. Gonna be a zoo there.

    Glad I don’t live nearby.

My parents live about two blocks from there. They aren’t thrilled…but it doesn’t sound like it matters what the neighbors think about it.

Kandle is seriously under-used and under developed.

But replacing Titlow may or may not be such a great idea. The Metro Parks pools (and I don’t mean the summer, 2’ deep ones) are spaced actually not too badly. Titlow serving the West end. People’s Serving the Hill. Eastside (at Gault MS) serving the east side. Norpoint serving the NE. Stewart Hts serving the south end. Adding a facility in the north will fill in a major coverage gap. And Kandle is the best potential candidate in terms of park size and access to population.
The neighbors may not like it, but the location is prime and highly under-used.
    I’m all for it.

Anyone who thinks a swimming complex is going to be a big traffic problem hasn’t spent time around a pool.

There simply are not that many people there at any one time.

Go take a look at the relatively small parking lot at Fife’s very nice and active city pool.

Tacoma needs more good swimming facilities. Let’s get on with it.

The pool being relocated to Kandle would be closer for me (if I chose to use it).

However, can anyone here tell me what the original proposition that was on the ballot said about replacing the Titlow Pool? Did it say monies for new pool to replace the one at Titlow? If so, why not rebuild it there? Does the Titlow location really have problems? If so, why wasn’t it shut down long ago?

Another example of the LONG, SLOW process of getting something done. Maybe next time we should put a timeline on getting a project started. If they don’t get it started by a certain date, they lose the money.

One of the all-time great movies:

    “The Swimmer” starring Burt Lancaster.

Winestyles at 30th and Pearl is having an election party tonight. Great wine tasting and a big screen in the back room!

Gross. Am I the only one who really dislikes wine?
