Today at the Film Festival
One of our Top Picks for the film festival has a one-time only matinee show today.
Beyond the Call, reviewed by David Schroedel, plays at 2:15 pm at the Grand. You wouldn’t mind cutting out of work early, would you?
And tonight at 10:00 pm is the homegrown film Limbo. We didn’t write it up, but it’s been playing the local circuit for a little while now, including a show this summer at the Galaxy.
Here’s the preview.

When I was young
I would walk the streets alone
And I’d promised myself that one fine day
I would buy myself a one-way ticket out of Tacoma
Then those bastards tore down the Greyhound station.

You whitewash graffiti
I say I forgive you
You blue blood neighborhoods
I say I forgive you
You brown nose politicians
I say I forgive you
You green light Evolution
I say I forgive you
You blackball my freedom

“The heart of a city Is the soul of a man It winds like a river Through the heart of the land They can tear down a building They can tear down a park They can strike at a symbol But they can’t strike the heart.”
-Janis Ian (“Heart of a City”, unreleased 2002)

I’m just underwhelmed. Or overexpectant. I can never make up mind. That’s what living in Tacoma is. And well, yeah, Place can be torn down.
“ connect to persons outside ourselves “……I don’t feel property owners or city fathers/mothers connected with anyone but their portfolio managers.
But I guess that was a good Sophomore Essay. Good Job !
