Toll Bridge Civil Penalty Notices Mail This Week
This week WSDOT will start mailing out civil penalty notices to vehicle owners who are 80 days or more delinquent on paying bridge tolls on the Tacoma Narrows and 520 bridges.
The notices will include the cost of the initial toll, a $5 processing fee for each reminder mailed, and a $40 “civil penalty” for each unpaid toll, along with the date, time, location, and a photo of the license plate from each unpaid crossing. Owners will then have 20 days to pay or to challenge the charges. Vehicle owners who continue to have unpaid fees may have a hold placed on their license renewal and the debt sent to collections.
The process is meant to strengthen the toll collection system, and get more of the money owed back to paying down the debt on the bridges.
