Town Hall on Ethics Reform Feb 27th

Pierce Council Councilmembers Tim Farrell and Calvin Goings are hosting a town hall meeting to hear public input on proposed Ethics and Lobbying reform. According to the flyer:

Lobbyist Registration and Reporting
Unlike the State, or King and Snohomish County – paid professional lobbyists currently do not have to register when trying to influence public policy in Pierce County. The proposed reform package would require lobbyists to regularly disclose their efforts.

Strengthened Ethics Rules
The new regulations would ban the giving of gifts, meals, trips, etc. to elected officials or county employees. It will also give the County Ethics Commission expanded authority to investigate complaints of undue influence. The plan also greatly increases the funding of the Ethics Commission to promptly implement its “sunshine” responsibilities.

The County Council’s legislation is considered the most sweeping reform in two decades. Do you have any opinions? Public feedback is needed.

Let them know what you think!

    Go Tim and Calvin go!

Can I still buy you a cup of coffee and talk about streetcars though?

With all the volunteer work you and your family do for our community, buying your coffee is an honor I’d like to keep. So, uh.. no. :)

mmm… ethics. How do you say “ethics reform” without pointing fingers? Then again, maybe a finger is appropriate once in a while.
