UPS Hosts Events on Race Next Week
With MLK Day quickly approaching we were pleased to discover that UPS is doing several events relating to race over the next couple weeks.
Wednesday, Jan. 21:
Harold Moss, former mayor of Tacoma, will be keynote speaker at a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day starting at 7 p.m. in Kilworth Memorial Chapel on campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Thursday, Jan. 22:
At 6 p.m. in Rasmussen Rotunda, Wheelock Student Center, there will be a viewing and discussion of a film from the series Race—The Power of an Illusion, a powerful documentary exploring our nation’s common assumptions about race. The night’s film The House We Live In examines how institutional racism influenced the composition of the middle class in post-World War II America. The event is free and open to the public.
Friday, Jan. 23:
Open-mic performances by students, faculty, staff, and community members on the theme of “Moving Beyond Tolerance” or other individual inspirations will end the week. The event, which is free and open to the public, starts at 1 p.m., in Rasmussen Rotunda, Wheelock Student Center.
The events sound like they may be interesting, moving, and definitely worth checking out. Interested?
