USCGC Comanche Tours on Saturday

With all this warm weather the last few days we’ve had a strong desire to get outside on the water. So, should you be looking for something to do, here’s a bit of goodness on the Foss tomorrow.

Visitors to Tacoma’s Foss Waterway Seaport this weekend have the chance to tour a vintage 143-foot ocean going tugboat. The USCGC Comanche, which calls Olympia home, will visit the Foss Waterway Seaport located at 705 Dock Street this weekend.

Comanche became a well known Coast Guard vessel along the Pacific coast, a standard bearer of the Coast Guard’s motto Semper Paratus – “always ready”, rendering assistance to numerous ships, fishing boats and recreational vessels and federal law enforcement service.

The Comanche became a private commercial tug in the early 1990s and moved to Puget Sound. The boat is now owned by a non-profit foundation dedicated to preserving the vessel and to providing heritage education programming.

Free public tours are available from noon – 5 pm on Saturday.
