UWT Hood Corridor Project

COMMUNITY FORUM – TODAY
The City and UW Tacoma are ready for the next round of public input on the Hood Corridor/Prairie Line Trail project. The trail, which runs through the center of the UWT campus is destined for an upgrade, and eventual connection to the Foss Waterway Esplanade. Improvements will include lighting, open spaces, historical markers and, of course, paths for pedestrians and bicyclists. There are several prospective designs from which the final will be chosen, either in whole, or in parts. Whatever happens, the rails will be preserved as an homage to the history of the space.
Guided by student and community input, landscape architects Atelier Dreiseitl have developed a preliminary plan that transforms the 80 foot wide rail corridor through the UW Tacoma campus into a vibrant new open space. The plan celebrates and leverages opportunities provided by community connections while honoring the industrial past of the surrounding area and incorporating sustainable strategies for storm water management.
5:00 pm – Designs on Display, 5:20 pm – Presentation, 5:40 pm – Question & Answer. Following the presentation, University and City planners will be available to answer individual questions. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
