Visiting Artists do "Kids Design Glass"
It seems like the Museum of Glass is trying to raise a new generation of Chihulys. Not so much in the “world-renowned artist” department, but in the “sketch something vague and let someone else do the work” sort of way.
In the latest attraction to its “Kids Design Glass” program, the MoG is bringing in a series of visiting artists to turn children’s drawings into glass sculptures. 4 artists will participate over the next 5 months, and each will make one piece for themselves child to take home and one for the museum’s permanent collection. The museum gathers designs from visitors under 12 and patients at the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, then selects one for the artist to work from. The Hot Shop has produced 50 pieces in this way, and the results will be showcased next October in the museum.
The first visiting artist, Dante Marioni, will be working this Sunday, Oct. 26. The Hot Shop will be open from noon-5pm.
Details
Dante Marioni – Oct. 26
Preston Singletary – Dec. 14
Martin Blank – Jan. 25
Lino Tagliapietra – Feb. 1

One bit of clarification to the above post—the artists create two sculptures, one for the CHILD to take home and one for the Museum’s collection.

“but in the ‘sketch something vague and let someone else do the work’ sort of way.”
Ouch!
Good thing he’s the only one in the design world who doesn’t do every step of production themselves.

“…patients at the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital…”
Nice. Too bad each one can’t get a piece.
