Walk Tacoma 2013

Walk Tacoma is back, kicking off next Wednesday, April 3 with a walk in Wright Park. Downtown On the Go and the American Heart Association, in partnership with Metro Parks, and series sponsor Franciscan Health System, are once again partnering to bring Tacoma a series of free walking events, kicking off on National Walking Day (Wednesday, April 3, for those of you who don’t keep NWD on your calendars), from noon to 1:00 p.m.
The Wright Park Walk
The inaugural walk will be a Garden Walk through Wright Park, with a guided tour of the park and the Seymour Conservatory, led by Kathy Sutalo and Mary Anderson of Metro Parks. The walk is sponsored by Doyle’s Public House (which, coincidentally, would make an excellent pre- or post-walk lunch stop). Walkers should meet at the south side of Wright Park by the lion sculptures, where booths featuring information on healthy lifestyles, healthy commutes, and upcoming walking events will be available until 11:30 a.m. The first 100 walk participants will receive a swag bag, and all participants who walk, bike, or take the bus to the event will be eligible for additional prizes. You don’t need to be pre-registered.
The April third walk is just the beginning of an eight walk series, with walks planned for the first and third Thursdays of the month from April through August. The goal of the series is to encourage downtown employees and others to get out, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. Walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and the end of the work day to encourage downtown employees to walk during their work day, whether to and from work, or on a break.
