Wanted: Your First Night Stories

Apparently First Night was just what many South Sound residents were looking for.

The museums saw a significant boost in attendance and restaurants around downtown also experienced a large influx of customers. Several downtown and Theater District businesses were bustling like we’ve never seen them bustle before.

We, and the First Night board, would love to hear what local businesses think, especially the folks who stayed open late. What are the artists saying? Did you go? How was it? If you have any stories, or have heard any really good ones, please, do share!

If this is what happened during First Night’s first year back in the black … just imagine what next year will be like.

And, to Downtown Tacoma, consider this a warning shot for what’s to come during this summer’s Tall Ships 2008 event when it’ll be warm out and the days are longer.

Downtown is waking up … hold on to your hats.

We were at the Museum of Glass in the afternoon. I have never seen the hot shop so crowded. Every seat was full and there were people all the way around the walkway which surrounds the glass blowing area. The best part of my story…the visiting artist started the crowd doing the wave, you know like the one people do at sports events. It was awesome, this ordinarily quiet and mellow place had the wave going around it with the crowd actually standing and cheering and the artist running in circles to get it going! It was awesome and I’ll probably never see it again.
