Washam Cut Off

Last Thursday Pierce County put an end to taxpayer-funded legal support for Assessor-Treasurer Dale Washam.

The total on Washam’s legal tab is now at nearly $700,000, and climbing. Many Pierce County residents have watched incredulously as the fees to defend Washam’s frequently reckless behavior have mounted in recent years, with his behavior going apparently unchecked.

The County has finally had enough of defending Washam. According to an article from The News Tribune, a letter, signed by Pierce County risk manager Mark Maenhout lays out the situation for Washam:

“You are, as always, free to provide your own legal representation but it will no longer be at the expense of the Pierce County taxpayers.”

The move comes on the heels of a March 1 public meeting in which Washam’s behavior once again may have put the County at risk.

It’s about time.

Now, I’d only we could send him a bill, or start withdrawing payment from his paycheck for the $700K already spent on his legal fees.
